Joseph David Slomiana, 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14th in Greenwich, Connecticut. Joseph was born December 19, 1918 to John and Cecylia (Danek) in Chicopee, Massachusetts and was the second oldest of 4 children. At the age of 3, he and his family moved to Krosno, Poland where he lived until he was 28 years old.
Joseph returned to the United States in 1946 and then soon after began a 32 year career with GAF Corporation in Greenwich, CT. In 1960, he went back to Poland and married his wife Janina Jucha. Together, they returned to the United States to start a family and finish his career where he retired as a Machinist and Head Mechanic from GAF in 1980.
Joseph was long time member of the Glennville Polish Club and served as its President for several years. He loved spending time with his wife, family, and friends and enjoyed many hobbies including his music collection, tending to his garden, and adding his own improvements to any household item whether it required ‘fixing’ or not.
Joseph will be dearly missed and is survived by his wife, Janina; son Richard (Lori); daughter Teresa (Walter) and grandchildren; Madison and Katelyn.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Rd. #3, Greenwich, CT. A mass will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry St., Greenwich, CT. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 399 North St., Greenwich, CT.
