John Osterberg, 82 of Greenwich passed away on May 4, 2011 at his home. He was born in Port Chester, NY in 1929. His parents were Hanna and Oscar Osterberg. He spent three of his early years in Sweden and later moved back to Port Chester and attended school there until 1941. The family then moved to Greenwich and he graduated from Greenwich High School in 1947. He worked with his father in the flooring business for a few years and then became a carpenter. He served in the US Army in Southern Germany in 1951. He married his wife Doris in 1953. She was the love of his life. He leaves his wife, son Carl and wife June, granddaughter Lindsay of Dunedin, Florida, son Gary and wife Marie, grandchildren Troy, Reed and Lexi of Newport Coast, California, son Glenn and his wife Michelle and grandchildren Glenn Jr., and Jamie of Monroe, CT, daughter Susan Osterberg and her daughter Hanna of Milford, CT and her companion Patricia Ivanpal and son Jake. John maintained Arnold Bakers building and property for 30 years and retired in 1994. As a youth he belonged to the Greenwich Sea Scouts and later enjoyed boating with his family on their boat. The water was his passion. He was a member of the Retired Men's Association, AARP 3020 in Glenville and the Byram Seniors. John was a past member of the East Port Chester Fire Department. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rye Brook, NY. Family and friends may visit at the Castiglione Funeral Home, Inc., 134 Hamilton Ave. in Greenwich on Sunday, May 8th, 2011 from 4-8PM. Funeral services and burial will be private. The family has asked memorial donations be made in his memory to: St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 761 King St., Rye Brook, NY 10573.
