Obituary for Virginia Ann LaVersa

Virginia Ann LaVersa

Virginia A. LaVersa, a longtime resident of Greenwich, CT passed away on January 20, 2017. On that evening, she was reunited with her husband James W. LaVersa Sr. (“Jim”) who predeceased her 27 years ago. Virginia was born August 4, 1939 in Greenwich, CT to Alfred Ricciardi and Carmella "Molly" Ricciardi. She was the youngest of six children and grew up in a loving and spiritual family. Virginia and Jim married in 1963 and enjoyed a beautiful marriage and life together in Greenwich where they raised 4 children, James, Jr. of Buffalo, NY, Stephen of Greenwich, CT, Gregory of Basking Ridge, NJ and Gina LaVersa-Zeitlin of NYC.
Virginia will be remembered for her love of life, her warmth and kindness. She made many lifelong friendships that were an extension of her family. Among them in her later years was her dear companion, Frank Geronimo, with whom she shared many wonderful travels and adventures. As a devoted member of St. Paul Roman Catholic church in Greenwich, she passed her strong faith on to her children. After raising her family, she went back to work in 1975 for United Parcel Service and through hard work, was promoted within the Finance Department. After her husband passed away in 1990, Virginia moved to Atlanta, GA with UPS before retiring in 1995. In retirement, she took much joy working as a caregiver for the children of many family friends. Virginia had a unique ability to connect with children and it made her truly happy. She was an active and involved grandmother with pride and endless love for her grandchildren and very special memories of her are shared by James III, Alexander, Alexa, Matthew, Amanda, Gregory Jr., Caroline, Molly, Brayden, Hannah, Amanda and Shayna.
Virginia is predeceased by her parents, her oldest sister Matilda Ricciardi Mecca and her husband Dominick Mecca, her sister Lucille Ricciardi Ciccone, and her husband Rocco Ciccone and her sister-in-law Elizabeth Sprague Ricciardi, wife of William Ricciardi. In addition to her 4 children, Virginia is survived by her 3 brothers and 3 sister-in-laws, William Ricciardi, Joseph and Marie Ricciardi, Gerald and Christine Ricciardi, and Marie LaVersa Tripodi. Virginia is also survived by her daughter-in-law Robin Niebuhr LaVersa, wife of Gregory, son-in-law, Brian Zeitlin, husband of Gina, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
A wake will be held at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road #3 in Greenwich, CT on Monday January 23rd from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM.
