Earl V. Fleig “Red”, 92, of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 23, 2019 surrounded by his family at his home after a long illness. Red was the devoted husband of Marie Nancy Fusaro Fleig, he was born on July 15, 1926 in Boston, MA to the late Earl F. and Mary Farrell Fleig.

After graduating Greenwich Highschool in 1944, Red enlisted in the US Army serving in Japan and the Philippines as a paratrooper. After his discharge, he returned to Greenwich and married Marie Nancy on October 21, 1950. Earl’s passion for the water led him to own and operate American Sailmakers, he was also a member and past commodore of the Byram Shore Boat Club. His greatest joy however, was to be with his family.
In addition to his wife Marie Nancy, he is the proud father of Sandy McAndrews and her husband Bill, Kathy Fleig and her husband Richard Goldstein, Betsy Barber and her husband Bill and Amy Sherman and her husband Patrick. Red was also blessed with 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Earl is the brother of Dorothy Hamer and is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St Agnes Church on Monday January 28, 2019. Entombment with full Military Honors followed in St Mary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. www.stjude.org
