Gerald Joseph Berrafati, MD, 89, a resident of Old Greenwich, CT, died peacefully on June 18, 2019 after a brief battle with ALS. Born in New York, New York to Sicilian immigrant parents, he attended Lafayette High School in Brooklyn and received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University. Dr. Berrafati earned his medical degree from The University of Turin, Italy, and had a distinguished forty-year career practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Vernon Hospital, and at Saint John's Riverside Hospital in Westchester County, NY. During his career, Gerald had the pleasure of delivering multiple generations of his patients' families, and volunteered many hours providing medical services to the poor. After he retired, he was an active volunteer at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, the Retired Men’s Association of Greenwich, and various Greenwich Community organizations. For more than thirty-five years, he was married to his beloved wife, Lillian (nee Fauci), who pre-deceased him in 1997. Gerald was passionate about the Arts and was an accomplished painter and lover of opera. An avid gardener and cook, he was happiest sharing meals around the table with his family. He was known and loved for his genial and optimistic nature, his humility and generosity, and his love and devotion to his Catholic faith and family. Dr. Berrafati is survived by his three children, Josephine Berrafati Tice (Kevin) of Vail, CO, Linda Berrafati Moran (Thomas) of McLean, VA, and Joseph Fauci Berrafati (Gina) of Wilton CT, as well as seven grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 9:00 am, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Greenwich, CT, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (, or to The Fairfield County House, 1 Den Rd., Stamford, CT 06903.

When I returned home after a hospital stay, I was so sad to learn of Dr.B's death. I worked for him for more than 22 years in
Yonkers. What a wonderful person. I even took art lessons with him! To all the Berrafati family, please accept my deepest
sympathy. Sincerely, Nancy Spizzirro

I know Mr.Berrafati as Linda’s father. She talked a lot about her Dad to all of us at the place where she exercises.
She loved him dearly and was so proud of the fact that he exercised everyday. I had the opportunity to meet him when he came at Easter. I commented to Linda that at 89 years of age, he was such a handsome man! The three of us had an impromptu party with coffee and some Italian sweets. We reminisced about Italian food, culture and life. It was as if I was talking to my family. We were laughing and we had a ball.
Your Dad was so full of life just like all of the Berrafati’s! I am so sorry for having lost this great man at such a young age! 💕❤️😥
